Grove Street Cartel
Easily the hardest duo in the history of rap, the Grove Street Cartel had the Goss/Grove area on lock for several years. While the core group consists of
DJ/Producer/Gangbanger extraordinaire King Tone and MC/Playa/Punk Bitch Slaya J.O.B., the Grove Street Cartel rolls deep, and fledgling members include
Breuer The Destroyer, Chi "Pootie", The Crime Dogs, Eurotrash, MOP, The Greene Machine, Corleone, E-Rob, MC Cell Phone Games, oh, and... Robert Vaughn. Hot Whiskey
Dick's employee Matthew Greene grabbed his guitar and joined forces with Nate Byrne (drums), Ross McKenzie (guitar),
Nick Free (bass), and Chris Abernathy (vocals) to form Hot Whiskey. This band slays shit. They are about as intense as they come, and they regularly
sacrifice virgins onstage at their shows. Matt Greene does all his guitar solos in ice caves. They crushed the competition by a landslide in Metal Magazine's "most righteously righteous bands of all time" reader poll. Serious shit. The Knew
The Knew formed in Denver, Colorado, in the fall of 2004 as a trio: Dick's employee Tyler William Malone Breuer "The Destroyer" on guitar, and Dick's regulars Jacob Hansen on guitar and vocals, and Patrick Bowden on drums. The Knew’s music is influenced by hard, minimalist blues as well as dance-punk and even some southern rock and rockabilly tendencies. Their three albums, Rats, Malone, and the upcoming Holladay are three of the best albums of all time. To find out more about The Knew, including info on their upcoming shows, check their website or their myspace page. Ya heard?

MOP and the Disgruntled Janitors
MOP and the Disgruntled Janitors burst onto the scene in 2005, immediately electrifying the Rockabilly community and effectively taking the world by storm. Their double-platinum, genre-spanning hit, "Cookie Crisp", was met with astonishing commercial success as well as rave critical acclaim. The record has been called "the best pop record ever made" by Rolling Stone Magazine, but is just as praised for the complex sexual imagery and philosophical innuendos. Unfortunately, the lead singer met his demise in a freak amusement park accident in 2006, and the music world has never been the same. Sling and Arrows
In less than a year after teaming up as a solid unit, Chicago’s Slings & Arrows has become a band to be seen and heard in the city’s competitive scene. Portland-bred singer/ lyricist Henry Brown and veteran Chicago drummer Shawn Rios (Cracklin Moth, Alison Breitman, etc.) had a chance meeting in the spring of 2005 and the connection was made to start playing together immediately...Joined by synth-scientist/ pianist Jake Fish and anchored by bass guitarist/ vocalist Johnny O’Brien and dynamic lead guitarist Cyril Nigg (who moved from Boulder, CO to join the group)...Their sights are set not on retro gimmicks, but on innovation. Something much needed these days. Check out their website or their myspace page for more info.
